From 2019 through the present, BBI in partnership with Louisiana Housing Corporation acquired and rehabilitated single-family dwellings with HOME funds through the Department of U.S. Housing and Urban Development. BBI partners with Realtors, Lenders, Home Builders, Financial Institutions, and Credit Experts to educate First Time Home Buyers on the home buying process. Over 150 individuals participated in our classes focusing on pathways to homeownership.

Fighting housing inequality is a battle that BBI will continue into Mauritania as a first step of our global expansion of the project. Housing inequality in Mauritania faces several distinct challenges including administrative informality, lack of infrastructure, and rapid development of the major cities sparked by the Sahel Draughts. The estimated number of people living in informal settlements is well into the thousands. We are in the beginning stages of creating cooperative solutions to ensure some of the nations poorest people access to secure land tenure, adequate housing, and the services to allow people to live in health and dignity.
